FARO Orbis & Orbis Premium
TitleMobile and terrestrial laser scanning combined
FARO's new mobile flagship, the SLAM scanner FARO Orbis, comes with a host of innovative features and is therefore to be regarded as cutting-edge technology on the market. What is this in detail?
TitleFARO Orbis Premium - High-resolution 8K camera
The new FARO Orbis Premium impresses with high-resolution 8K panoramic images that deliver razor-sharp visual impressions. Thanks to improved color point clouds, the device enables an even more precise and realistic representation of environments. This enhanced data improves interpretation and analysis, which is invaluable for engineers, surveyors and urban planners. Overall, FARO Orbis Premium provides more detailed visual information to support planning and decision making.
The IP54 protection rating protects the Orbis Premium from dust and splash water and ensures robust performance in harsh environments.
TitleFARO Orbis - Higher accuracy and better data quality
The Orbis uses a LiDAR sensor with 32 channels. At 640,000 points/second, the sensor records twice as much data as its predecessor model.
Thanks to further improvements to the most robust SLAM on the market, the FARO Orbis delivers an accuracy of around 5mm, making it the most accurate mobile scanner on the market today.
TitleFARO Orbis with Flash function
With Flash technology, FARO is the first manufacturer to launch a hybrid scanner on the market that combines both SLAM (mobile laser scanning) and terrestrial scanning (TLS). The flash scans achieve an accuracy of up to 2mm.
In practice, this means that the user walks large areas with the FARO Orbis and simply triggers a flash scan if he needs more precise images for certain areas. For the flash scan, the user must stop for 15 seconds to take the image and then continue using the normal SLAM method.
TitleSignificantly higher productivity with FARO Orbis
In the past, two devices were required to capture mobile and terrestrial scans, which represented a high cost and time factor. This is now a thing of the past! With the hybrid scanner you are much more efficient on the road and can complete your projects up to 10 times faster.
With the advanced SLAM technology and FARO's new flash function, you can conveniently collect and analyze both scans in one device.
TitleFARO Orbis - Workflow with FARO Stream & Connect
With the Orbis, FARO offers new possibilities for data processing. The scanner can be used in the field with the Stream app and customers can view their scan results in real time.
Two options are then available for processing: processing in the cloud or locally on the computer.
For cloud processing, the data is uploaded to the FARO Sphere XG Cloud account.
Offline processing is done with FARO Connect and FARO Scene for registrations.
TitleConclusion about the new FARO Orbis scanner
With the Orbis scanner with Flash technology, FARO offers a hybrid scanner on the market that combines mobile scanning with GeoSLAM's SLAM technology and the TLS scanning method. Thanks to the new development, which is currently at the forefront of scanning technology and achieves a real accuracy of 5mm, you can achieve remarkable scanning results. The FARO Orbis scanner naturally has a color option.
In addition to the new hardware, further possibilities for data processing in the cloud have been introduced as an option. For customers who prefer local data evaluation, this is of course still available.
With the Orbis, FARO has made a unique technological advancement that sets new standards on the market and provides customers with extremely fast scanning performance.
TitleVersatile hybrid scanner
As the first hybrid scanner on the market, the FARO Orbis enables you to capture data extremely quickly and flexibly. Thanks to SLAM technology, you can quickly walk through the terrain and capture the data you need. For more demanding data with an accuracy of up to 2mm, you can then scan with the Flash mode. The combination of SLAM and Flash technology saves valuable time and you don't need to use two devices to capture data.
Thanks to the SLAM and Flash technology, i.e. the combination of mobile and terrestrial scanning, the FARO Orbis scanner can be used in various areas.

TitleFARO Orbis applications
Documentation of construction sites
The FARO Orbis is the perfect companion among 3D scanners for quick documentation and easy further processing of data on construction sites. You can start scanning in just a few seconds and obtain high-quality data for the construction project.
Building Information Modelling (BIM)
Create scans of the construction site quickly and efficiently at regular intervals and compare the point cloud data with the existing CAD model to identify any deviations at an early stage.
Asset management
The efficiency and speed of the FARO Orbis scanner guarantee better data capture of buildings, enabling a safe and highly accurate way of asset management.
Geospatial data digitization
For fast, secure data capture for geospatial projects, improved workflows and capturing large sites in less time, the FARO Orbis hybrid scanner is an ideal choice.
Stockpile volume
Keep track of stockpile volumetric data with fast and repeatable scanning.
Forestry
Perform a forest inventory on real data. You can also use the data to calculate the carbon content (CO2 content) in your forest.

TitleFast capture and simple operation
With the simple operation of the FARO Orbis scanner, even inexperienced people can capture data quickly and easily. The hybrid scanner offers two options for data capture. For example, you want to capture a hall and use SLAM technology for fast capture. For more detailed images, you can simply switch to flash mode and achieve an accuracy of up to 2mm.
The device is operated using the free FARO Stream app, which is available free of charge from the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. If there are any problems with the app, the smartphone or the connection, you can start and stop the scans directly on the device.
TitleFARO Orbis with SLAM workflow
For the SLAM workflow, it is important that you select the same start and end point for the start and end of the scan in order to maximize data accuracy.
You can now walk through the rooms to be scanned at walking pace. Try not to turn the scanner too quickly so that the FARO Orbis can capture everything.
Then go back to your starting point and finish the scan.
TitleFARO Orbis with SLAM & Flash function
As with the SLAM workflow, you select the same start and end point and begin your scan.
As soon as you come across an area where you need more detail in the capture, hold your scanner on the monopod in the corresponding direction and perform a flash scan.
You can then continue the "tour".
TitleFARO Orbis data processing
FARO offers two options for data processing / further processing: online data analysis via Sphere XG and offline data analysis via FARO Connect.
Online workflow
In the online workflow, the captured data is uploaded to the SPHERE XG cloud solution and automatically processed there. You can easily share the scan data with other employees via SPHERE XG.
Offline workflow
In the offline workflow, you can import the data from the data logger directly into the FARO Connect software via WiFi, USB or network cable. The individual processing steps are then carried out manually or automatically in the Connect software. You can then register the processed data in FARO Scene and analyze it in more detail. Of course, you can also upload the data to SPHERE XG after transferring it to FARO Connect.
