Title
The Crown Bridges Light Rail project

Wysiwyg text

The Crown Bridges Light Rail project (Kruunusillat) in Helsinki is setting new standards in transport improvement and networking. The use of state-of-the-art technologies such as drone mapping and 3D modelling as well as the use of the cloud-based platform Pointscene optimise communication and collaboration between the parties involved. The ‘Crown Bridges Consortium’, consisting of Kreate and YIT Finland Ltd, is utilising these technologies for the construction of Finland's largest bridge.

Title
Three new bridges for Helsinki

Wysiwyg text

The Crown Bridges Light Rail project involves the construction of three new bridges in Helsinki to better connect the city's neighbourhoods and optimise traffic. In the first phase, a tram line will be built between Laajasalo and Hakaniemi, including the Merihaka Bridge, the Finke Bridge and the Kruunuvuori Bridge. In the second phase, the tram line will be extended to Helsinki Central Station.

Main objective: Improving transport in the Helsinki metropolitan area

Wysiwyg text

The Crown Bridges Consortium, consisting of Kreate and YIT Finland Ltd, is responsible for the construction of the Kruunuvuori Bridge and the Finke Bridge. The project is financed by the City of Helsinki and the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. The main objective is to improve transport in the Helsinki metropolitan area by creating new connections between the eastern and western parts of the city. The new bridges will also create more efficient routes for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

The Crown Bridges Light Rail project comprises the construction of two of the three bridges in the overall project in Helsinki:

  • Kruunuvuori Bridge (Kruunuvuorensilta): with a length of 1,191 metres, it will be the longest bridge in Finland. It will also be the highest (135 metres) and the bridge with the largest span (260 metres).
  • Finke Bridge: This bridge will have a length of 293 metres.

Construction work began in autumn 2021 and is scheduled for completion in 2026. The consortium's construction volume amounts to around 123 million euros.

Title
Geodata management with Pointscene

Wysiwyg text

To support the planning and construction process, the Crown Bridges Consortium relies on innovative technologies such as drone mapping and 3D modelling. The project also uses Pointscene, a cloud-based platform for managing and sharing geodata. Pointscene enables the exchange of drone orthophotos with platforms such as Trimble Connect, Infrakit and Vektor.io, optimising collaboration and communication between the various project stakeholders. By efficiently managing and sharing geospatial data with Pointscene, the consortium is able to keep all project stakeholders up-to-date throughout the project.
