Laser scanning for preservation of evidence by the police in Mannheim (Germany)

After a police operation, a 37 years old man has been found dead in his apartment in Mannheim (Germany). He had put up massive resistance when police officers wanted to arrest him in the morning. Policemen fired off shots. It is still unclear if the 37-year-old died as a result or if he killed himself.

First investigations of the site of crime show, according to the police, that the man deemed to be disturbed had a gun on himself at the time of operation. The investigations have not been finished.

When the policemen rang the bell in the morning, the man threw an incendiary mixture on the policemen. A policeman has been injured so severely that he had to be carried by a helicopter into a special clinic. It isn’t known yet how he feels. When the 37-year-old had thrown a further incendiary mixture on the policemen, they fired at the man at the window. Moments later, special forces stormed the apartment and found the dead body of the 37-year-old.

For the preservation of evidence, investigators documented the apartment with a 3D laser scanner.
