Sustainability with wind energy - Construction monitoring of a wind farm with Reality Capture
TitleThe Pahkakoski wind farm
The Pahkakoski Wind Farm in Finland is a significant project promoting sustainable energy production. KSBR is responsible for the construction of the infrastructure for this 30-turbine wind farm. With an annual production capacity of approximately 600 gigawatt hours, Pahkakoski will make a significant contribution to Finland's wind energy capacity. The innovative use of digital tools plays a key role in increasing efficiency and preventing errors in the construction process.
TitleThe project at a glance
This project represents an important step towards a more sustainable energy future and demonstrates how the use of modern technologies and efficient construction processes can lead to major advances in wind energy. This onshore project is initiated by the energy company Ilmatar and follows the TCI (Transport, Crane and Installation) model, which covers all logistical and technical aspects from delivery to installation and commissioning of the turbines. The construction of the wind farm will be carried out by KSBR and is planned for the period from the end of 2023 to September 2024. Following completion of the construction work, commercial operation of the wind farm will begin in summer 2025.
TitleReality Capture for efficient construction projects

The main aim of the project is to increase efficiency and sustainability in the construction and maintenance of wind farms through the use of digital technologies.
KSBR relies on Pointscene's software to improve plan updates and communication in the project. The use of images and 3D models created with reality capture data increases efficiency and minimises costly errors.
An outstanding example of digital transformation in this project is the use of drone data. This enables new working methods, such as the digital calculation of areas for tree felling based on orthophotos before and after the work. Project engineer Senja Poutiainen emphasises that general situational awareness has improved significantly thanks to these technologies. As many project members, including Poutiainen, often work off-site, they can still follow the progress of the project closely thanks to Pointscene.
