Documentation of piping

Is there a minimum diameter for piping so that a registration would be possible? How can valves, hand wheels etc. be illustrated?

Regards

Rene

Survey piping by laser scanning

Hey Rene,

Piping with a small diameter can basically be registered. Which detailing can finally be seen in the point cloud depends especially on the following aspects:

1. Resolution of the laser scans. The higher the resolution, the more points of the object are determined / surveyed by the laser scanner. If the resolution lasts out capturing the object, the object would be visible on the scan. It is more difficult to determine the exact diameter of the piping. For that purpose, it is important to document the piping’s diameter on site for the subsequent positioning of the piping in the correct position according to the existing scan points.
2. Distance to the object. Since the density of points decreases at an increasing distance to the scan object, piping with a small diameter should be registered from a short distance. Here the rule is: Many scans with an average resolution are better than a few scans with high resolution.

Of course, hand wheels, valves, check valves etc. can be illustrated.
