Diffusely reflecting target

A diffusely reflecting target is a target that is characterised with the property to reflect  light in many angles rather than at just one angle as in the case of specular reflection. In LIDAR, Lambertian reflection is often used as a model for diffuse reflection. Rough surfaces (roughness in the scale of the laser wavelength), e.g., raw masonry, are well modelled as diffusely reflecting targets.
