In this user report, we discuss how to convert point clouds from FARO Scene to an Autodesk RECAP project *.rcp so that you can import these point clouds in AutoCAD.
There are three different ways to transfer data processed in FARO Scene into an Autodesk RECAP project.
A| Use *.rcp export function directly in FARO Scene
- We start with a Scene project that has already been registered.
- In the workflow bar just look for "Export".
- Use the tool "Export as project".
- Switch export format to "Recap Project (*.rcp)" and select output folder.
- Click on "Export" to start the export. Note that it will take a little time to export your project, depending on your project size.
B | Use Autodesk RECAP and import the FARO Scene project
- We start with a Scene project that has already been registered.
- Open RECAP and launch a new project.
- IMPORT: Click on "Select files to import" and navigate to the Scene project you would convert into *.rcp format.
- Import the ".lsproj" file of your Scene project.
- Before you start importing the scan data, please adjust the filter options given by RECAP.
- Start the import. It will take a little time to import all scans.
- Index the scans.
- You can review the point cloud in RECAP before you save the project.
C | Use the E57 export option in FARO Scene and the import option in Autodesk RECAP
- We start with a Scene project that has already been registered.
- In the workflow bar just look for "Export".
- Use the tool "Export Scan Points" and then "Export Scans - Ordered".
- Select E57 format and make sure that you enter the check box to export every scan in a separate file.
- Adjust the other export options if you like and start the export. Note that it will take a little time to export all the scans into E57 format.
- Open RECAP and launch a new project.
- IMPORT: Click on "Select files to import" and navigate to the folder where you saved all .e57 files and select them.
- Before you start importing the scan data, please adjust the filter options given by RECAP.
- Start the import. It will take a little time to import all the scans.
- Index the scans.
- You can review the point cloud in RECAP before you save the project.
