LiDAR

LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) is a measurement method in which the velocity of or the distance to objects (e. g. vehicle, clouds) is determined with the aid of laser beams. In that process, the light’s time of flight from the laser beam’s emitting to the detection of the beam reflected by the object. The time of flight serves as a basis for calculations. Among other things, LiDAR is applied in Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) and in robotics.
