Checkerboard target

The checkerboard target is a reference mark for laser scanning. A checkerboard consists of two black and two white squares which are arranged like a chessboard. The evaluation software detects this pattern and automatically determines a center (weighted focus) which will serve as a reference point. Such a target mark can be sticked to a wall or positioned free-standing. Ideally, the checkerboard target can be turned so that the checkerboard can be directed optimally to the scanner. When the checkerboard is directed too obliquely, the checkerboard target might not be detected by the evaluation software.

The center of the mark can also be measured by a tachymeter (non-reflective) without any problems.

The checkerboard target is available as a small or a large version and each one as a single target or as a set in Laserscanning Europe's online shop. The connectivity options are:

  • M8 adapter for usage with laser scanning accessories such as traffic cone, ranging pole, measurement point stickers etc.
  • 5/8" adapter for attaching the checkerboard target to tripods or tripod accessories with 5/8" system
  • 1/4" adapter for attaching the checkerboard target to camera tripods
  • Leica adapter for attaching the checkerboard target to a Leica system
