Schmiddel twice in the top ten

Last weekend, the road racing entourage stopped over in the Czech town of Horice, where the sport of road racing traditionally enjoys a high level of appreciation. The team was already a guest entrant in the Czech Championship in May of this year, and this time it was points in the IRRC series that were up for grabs.

Arrival in Horice, Czech Republic

Soon after their arrival in the drivers' camp on Friday, the team sensed the special atmosphere of Horice. The small town at the foot of the Horice sandstone ridges gives off a flair that is very special in the road racing circus. As always, there was a flurry of activity all around the drivers' camp. In the course of the day, the obligatory technical inspection and driver presentation took place.

Good qualifying on Saturday

With two acceptable qualifying rounds on Saturday, Schmiddel secured a solid 11th place in the starting formation. The tight time intervals towards the front meant that a better placement was also possible. Towards the rear, Schmiddel was about one second ahead – a good head start. The short distances to those in front meant that we were definitely in with a chance of top-ten placements.

Racing Sunday on the 300 bends of Gustav Havel with 7th and 8th place for Schmiddel

The first race of the day was cancelled as early as the 3rd lap due to a severe accident involving the Belgian Kevin de Frenne. There was then a restart, but the race was shortened to 5 laps. Schmiddel achieved the top-ten placement he was aiming for and drove across the finishing line as 7th in the IRRC rating.

From here, we wish Kevin all the best and a speedy recovery.

IIn the second race of the day, Schmiddel was involved in a tough contest over six laps with Kai Zentner of the Motorsport Weinhardt team. In the end, he won by a nose and grabbed 8th place. It was a genuine photo-finish, which Schmiddel won in the end by 19 hundredths of a second. At the end of the successful weekend, two good placings were achieved and Schmiddel collected important points in the championship.

The series continues next week on a circuit in Imatra (Finland), one that is new to all drivers.

We look forward to seeing you and hope for more successful and exciting races.
