Why should I create 2D plans?

Can someone explain my why I should create 2D plans with PointCab when I have already made the effort of a 3D survey?

Top view, front view and side view allow 3D model

Hi, that’s a very good question.

How is a 3D model created? (e. g. drawing of a cuboid in AutoCAD)

  1. Choose top view.
  2. Draw a rectangle length x width.
  3. Switch to side view or front view.
  4. Extrusion of the basis to the desired height (component z).

The 3D body is created. See example on Wikipedia.

Human being is used to describe objects with length x width x height. This approach has been implemented in all CAD solutions. There, we find top view, front view and side view. In addition, there is the isometric view serving as visualization.

PointCab has the same approach. Information is compressed to the essential views. If you use these views for drawing, you get a 3D model again. Here is another link for CAD.
